Meet the Hornbecks

The next grant recipients have been selected. Meet the Hornbecks! Bethany & Daniel are raising their adopted daughter, 13-year-old Aubrey. Aubrey is an active teen with spina bifida who uses a wheelchair to get around. The Hornbecks are also working through the adoption process for another precious daughter with her own medical needs. The 2-year-old girl who will soon join their family is also a full-time wheelchair user, making the need for an accessible van with room for two chairs and additional equipment a high priority for frequent out-of-town travel for both girls’ medical care.

Here’s a bit more about the Hornbeck family from mom, Bethany.
“My husband Daniel and I married 10 years ago and knew we wanted to become foster parents for kiddos with medical needs.
We adopted our oldest in 2019 just before lock down. She has Spina Bifida and is partially paralyzed from about the waist down.
4 years later we learned about our little one who also has Spina Bifida and needed a home. Little did we know that her medical needs included a trach and vent.
Both of our love bugs come with some amazing accessories including wheelchairs, a ventilator, a suction machine, catheters, leg braces, crutches, and really good parking!
Unfortunately, our van does not currently fit both girls safely and a nurse when needed. We also receive most of the girls’ medical care 3 hours away which means we are on the road a lot.
At this time our youngest lives 3 hours away and we visit as often as possible. Due to our current van’s condition, we are not able to travel as much as we would like and this is one barrier in bringing our little one home.”

In the coming months, the Hornbeck family will receive a $10,000 grant from enGAGE Mobility to go toward their van purchase. Can you help us reach our goal with a gift of support? A tax-deductible donation of any amount will support Aubrey and her younger sister, and allow enGAGE to continue helping more families in 2025 and beyond!
