Grant is the first recipient of 2026. He is also the first recipient of a grant through enGAGE Mobility to be the driver of a vehicle!
He lives in a rural community not far from Springfield, Missouri and is a full-time wheelchair user.
From his mom: “In 2008, our lives changed forever when we heard the news. “You’re having a boy and he has severe spina bifida.” Even though abortion was mentioned and even recommended by several doctors, we knew we couldn’t do that. We would face any challenges head on and give him the best life possible.
Fast forward to today, Grant is now 17 and looking at colleges! One of the biggest challenges yet was him driving. He obtained his driving permit and we installed hand controls in a vehicle. However, he cannot safely transfer, nor does he have the strength to lift his chair. We never ask for help, but the realization that we couldn’t afford a vehicle equipped to meet his needs was overwhelming.
This is when I went searching for options and found enGAGE Mobility.
We were blessed with Grant being chosen as a recipient. enGAGE Mobility has been an amazing part of our journey to find a vehicle perfect for him. They were open to different options and worked with us every step of the way.
We cannot thank the donors who support enGAGE Mobility enough. What they are doing is truly life-changing.
With Grant’s fully accessible Scion, he will be able to go wherever he wants, independently!”
